One time, I asked my daughter, “Who is stricter: Teacher Jan or Mama?” She confidently answered, “Mama”… so it is safe to say that Teacher Jan is my daughter’s favorite teacher. Teacher Jan is presently my daughter’s homeschool teacher. Just recently, I asked her again if she wants to go to a regular school or continue homeschooling under Teacher Jan’s supervision… She chose the latter. What would I do without Teacher Jan’s help?! Yes, she is a great help to me in educating Rafa. Her role goes way beyond academics; she is a teacher with a mix of ‘mothering’ and a friend to my daughter. She is a gentle but effective educator. One of the many signs I saw in my daughter that led me to believe homeschooling is good for her, is that whatever she is learning in class, she is able to share as if she is teaching it back. Whatever that method of learning is, one great factor of it is T. Jan’s way of teaching: educating while nurturing.
